Given the rich and diverse communities of northeastern Nevada, the VHC is proud to be a member of a number of collaborative projects promoting humanities in these communities.
Partnering with the Great Basin Indian Archives, Barrick Gold, and the University of Utah, VHC is compiling a searchable public database of Western Shoshone oral histories and documents to preserve the Western Shoshone language and heritage for future generations as well as for researchers.
In conjunction with the Smithsonian's 2016 Folklife Festival's "Basque: Innovation by Culture" celebration, the VHC is working with local partners to celebrate the Basque community in northeastern Nevada. An online exhibit compiled jointly with the Elko Euzkaldunak Club and the Northeastern Nevada Museum presents Elko's Basque heritage and the Elko Basque Festival, marking its 53rd year in 2016.
